Monday 16th of October 2023 – Robyn Davidson

This very interesting, adventurous woman and her story keeps popping up in my radar so I felt I should gather information about her because I am fascinated by her journey and by women who break the mould and pursue their vision.

The AI on Netflix recommended “Tracks” to me a few months ago and I added it to my list, after finding out it was based on a true story, based on the book with the same title.

Then this morning I read in the Guardian article below, that Robyn was written another book. When she was younger she was much inspired by her father and his tales of adventure. She then walked across the Western Australian desert for 9 months with camels for company. But it was only later in life, in her 40s, that she started to think about her mother, who died by suicide when Robyn was a young teenager. Hence the new book, Unfinished Woman.

I can relate to this a lot, although I’ve never been on epic journeys, I did move around a lot and never quite fit in anywhere, fully. This is Robyn reflecting on how she adapted to “normal” life after her 9 months away from humans.

“I think I never have actually adapted. What you come back to will always seem a bit mad. I think we are mad. I think humans are bonkers. When you have that different sense of what your relationship to reality is and you come back to this insane place, you never forget.”
