Monday 15th of February 2010 – Gran Canaria
As we’re intending on doing a charity mile run for Comic Relief we started the day jogging. After having scrambled eggs with pancetta for breakfast, that I cooked for us. We jogged to the beach, exchanged some dollars I found ($50 became 30 Euros, for that my passport got photocopied at the bank, grrr!!!!). We also bought some cheap towels for the beach and snorkel+mask for you.
We stayed at the beach until around 1:30, went back, dropped everything off and went for a 20 minute jog towards the zig-zag road to get to the top of the rocky mountain. Gran Canaria being the mini-continent that it is, has a landscape in some areas which is very similar to the American southwest. Some spaghetti westerns were filmed here. Inland you get almost tropical forests. And then there are the sand dunes…
We got back and had a long swim for the rest of the afternoon, in the hotel’s pool, the one we think may be heated on account of being much more pleasant than the other two.
We spent the evening at home, reading. I’m reading 1984 by George Orwell again, so much darker and scarier now that I’m older, and see the world differently. J cooked chorizo in tomato sauce, with spaghetti. Yummy!
