Wednesday 17th of January 2007 – New Home

Just a quick note to mark the occasion!

We viewed a house on Friday night, the three of us, then we viewed it again on Saturday morning, as we all quite liked it and we put an offer there and then for 15K less than the asking price. On Monday they told us that someone else was after the house too and that we ought to put forward our best and final offer via email by 11am this morning.

I fell in love with the house, primarily for its location (very near Tooting Bec Common – near Tooting Bec tube station) and the big windows, which make the house feel bigger than what it really is (a bit like our flat). From your window you’ll be able to see the common and there are so many schools around the area that we’re spoilt for choice: St. Anselm’s (Catholic – first choice, but I’m not sure they’ll take you as it’s very oversubscribed) and Franciscan School – both have much better results than your current school, St. Joseph’s, so you will be moving to a better school. There are quite a few other schools in the area too.

J wasn’t so sure about it, as the house is rather expensive – but since December the prices in the area have gone up noticeably (too much demand not enough houses) but after much procrastination on his part last night he finally came around to the idea (I mean, he liked the idea in the first place, but started to doubt it once we realised we’d have to pay 5K less for the house rather than the 10k less we were hoping to pay. So in the end we offered 360K including the kitchen – they have an amazing cooker in the kitchen though!

You’ve been watching the whole series of Red Dwarf in the afternoons for the last week or so (we’ve been staying at J’s and driving to/from school/work) and their favorite ‘swear’ word is ‘smeg’. Well, the make of the beautiful cooker in the kitchen is also Smeg! How cool is that?

I’m so excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hope everything goes well. Everyone in the chain has a buyer/has put an offer so it should be ok unless something unexpected happens, we should be in our new house in a couple of months!

We’ll be keeping the flat empty for now so that your dad can come to London and the two of you have a nice place to stay, I think it would be to awkward if R. stayed at our house. Actually, I wouldn’t mind so much, but J isn’t too keen on the idea – he probably has a point – If it was only every now and then I think it wouldn’t be too bad, but with your dad coming every other weekend that would be too much. Your dad mentioned the idea of you going to live up there with them, and I said that if you want to go it’s fine by me – although (not so) secretly I’m hoping you’ll never want to go!!!!
